Summary of Experience:
Mr. Baker has performed numerous investigations related to construction defects, structural failures and collapses, wind and flood damage, roofing system failures, truss damage, foundation damage, water intrusion, and flooring damage. He performs code compliance evaluations (Building, Life Safety, and Accessibility for the Physically Handicapped) of building systems, walkway surface slip-resistance investigations, and investigations of fall protection systems for compliance with OSHA regulation.
Prior to his work in consulting, Mr. Baker was a structural design engineer. In this capacity, he performed building design, construction engineering, heavy-lift engineering, connection design, and fall hazard engineering. Mr. Baker currently serves as a Structures Specialist with North Carolina Emergency Management and the North Carolina Task Force 3 Urban Search and Rescue Team. He chairs the Structural Engineers Emergency Response Committee for both the Structural Engineers Association of North Carolina and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations. He is also a member of the ASTM F13 Committee on Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear. Previously, he served both as a Structures Specialist with the Michigan Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team and as an on-call firefighter and emergency medical technician with the City of Farmington Hills, Michigan.
