D. Curt Alvis is a Senior Investigator specializing in fire & explosion origin and causation analysis, fire prevention and life safety consultation, hazardous materials emergency planning and response, homeland security and litigation support services.
Curt has 38 years of wide-ranging experience in the public safety services and law enforcement. He has 26 years directly engaged in fire & explosion investigations in both the private and public sectors. His experience includes careers as a Chief Fire Marshal in a Washington DC Metropolitan area county and a Senior Special Investigator in the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of a major insurance carrier. He has conducted or supervised investigations into residential, commercial, industrial, and vehicular fires or explosions. These investigations include multiple fatalities, major explosions, serial arsonists, insurance fraud, complex subrogation, and multi-million loss incidents.
Curt is a Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) through the International Association of Arson Investigators, a Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). He is a licensed private investigator in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Delaware and West Virginia. Curt has testified and been qualified on multiple occasions as an expert witness in state and federal court proceedings and depositions involving fire/explosion origin and cause investigations.
