After coming ashore, Duncan worked as a Technical Superintendent for six years, overseeing daily operations, dry docks, and repairs for reefer ships and seismic survey vessels. He also served as site manager and owners’ representative during the conversion of a container ship into a seismic survey vessel.
As a surveyor and consultant, Duncan has conducted inspections across a wide range of vessel types. He has extensive hands-on experience with marine machinery, including main and auxiliary engines, boilers, rudders, steering gear, cranes, deck equipment, and mooring systems.
Duncan's investigative work includes damage assessments and machinery failure analysis—covering engine breakdowns (often fuel-related), steering gear, cranes, winches, fires, groundings, flooding, and collisions. He has also handled bareboat re-delivery surveys, contentious condition assessments, and newbuild disputes.
Duncan regularly works with law firms, P&I Clubs, underwriters, brokers, shipowners, charterers, and shipyards.
