Michael Brinker, PE, CFEI, CVFI, is a mechanical engineer with over twenty years of domestic and international engineering experience. He has worked in forensic failure analysis, power plant operations, pollution control systems, mining and mineral production, and the design of chemical production facilities. Michael has experience in various fields, including HVAC, boilers, plumbing and piping, process heating and cooling, fire protection systems, fertilizer production, backup power generation, conveying systems, and building energy management systems. His equipment and systems involvement includes CNC machines, commercial and consumer appliances, diesel-powered equipment, elevators, heat exchangers, kilns, mills, metal recycling, scrubbers and reactor vessels, turbines, wastewater treatment, and water purification.
Michael has performed several origin and cause analyses of equipment and system failures. These evaluations utilize industry-standard protocols and methods to assess component failures, deficiencies, or deviations from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications. He has investigated multiple fire and explosion incidents related to equipment, appliances, and vehicles, both at the scene of the event and in non-destructive and destructive laboratory examinations as needed. Additionally, Michael has conducted, directed, and/or participated in numerous investigative and failure evaluations of losses stemming from water leaks originating in plumbing, appliances, and fire protection systems, as well as vehicle accidents, lightning strikes, above-ground and underground storage tanks ruptures, and control system malfunctions.
Michael has assessed flood, wind, freeze, fire, and explosion-related damage and conducted a post-disaster analysis of equipment and systems to determine means of restoration. He has experience with international and local mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, and fire protection building codes, as well as standards from NFPA, ASTM, ASME, UL, and FM.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
