Fayçal “Sal” Merdach is a licensed professional engineer with over a decade of experience evaluating structural performance, building failures, and construction defects across residential, commercial, and industrial properties. His work centers on determining the origin, cause, and extent of damage through detailed forensic investigations and code-based analysis.
Sal has investigated a broad spectrum of structural and building envelope issues, including collapses, foundation movement, water intrusion, fire and impact damage, and material or construction deficiencies. He is skilled in translating complex field observations into clear, defensible findings supported by industry standards and engineering principles.
His experience also includes structural design and analysis for both new construction and existing buildings, including load evaluations for gravity, wind, and seismic conditions. He has contributed to the development of construction documents and led aspects of retrofit projects, including soft-story improvements and solar installations.
As part of the Forensic Architecture and Engineering (FA&E) practice, Sal works closely with architects, contractors, and project teams throughout design and construction, providing technical oversight, reviewing project submittals, and supporting successful project delivery.
