Wei Chiet Thong, P. Eng., (Thong) is a forensic civil and structural engineer with over 17 years of experience evaluating, designing, repairing, and rehabilitating wood, steel, concrete, and masonry structures throughout Canada and the United States. His project experience spans the energy, industrial, infrastructure, transportation, commercial, agricultural, and residential sectors. He specializes in structural engineering, forensic investigations, building envelope assessments, and the evaluation of structural deficiencies, damage, and failures.
Throughout his career, Thong has provided structural design services for new construction and repair programs for existing structures. He has prepared technical reports, including rebuttal reports, cause-and-origin analyses, and research and evaluation reports for legal matters. While serving with the Government of Alberta, he conducted engineering analyses and presented findings to the Minister of Municipal Affairs to support decisions regarding municipal and private claims arising from declared disasters.
Thong has focused on forensic investigations involving structural damage, failures, and deficiencies across a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. He performs structural reviews, building envelope assessments, and property evaluations, and provides expert analysis regarding the cause, extent, and recommended remediation of structural issues. His experience includes projects ranging from small losses to complex, multi-disciplinary investigations. Thong also dealt with various litigation matters that involved simple to complex construction failures, contractual disputes, code and regulatory compliances, personal injuries, and standard or care reviews.
Thong earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba in Canada and a Diploma in Engineering from University College of Sedaya International in Malaysia.
