What truly differentiates J.S. Held is our people — world-class talent driven by a common set of core values. Together, these shared values inspire a culture of integrity, excellence, teamwork, and service.
David Slaughter has been with J.S. Held for two years after joining the team through the U.S. HELM acquisition back in 2016. Based out of our Baton Rouge, Louisiana office, David is a key contributor to our Environmental, Health, and Safety group and is known for his keen attention to detail, laid-back personality, and desire to help others.
“David and I have worked together for over eight years – from natural disasters to chemical response work,” said Tracey Dodd, Executive Vice President and leader of the J.S. Held Environmental, Health, & Safety Business Practice. “He has always been the calm but directive voice on any project – asking the right questions and managing the situation for our clients in the most sensible way. David has never been shy to accept an assignment, even the most difficult ones, and our clients instantly benefit from his leadership. He exemplifies quality and service in all that we do.”
Whether he is engaged with projects related to industrial hygiene, health and safety, environmental investigations, or remediation protocols; David is a man who lives by his word and is committed to being a trusted business partner for his clients and colleagues alike.
David is a graduate of Louisiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and a Master’s degree in Public Health. He is a proud alum who bleeds purple and gold. One of his fondest memories of his time at LSU was being selected by his peers to carry the school’s banner during the commemorative ceremony for his graduating class.
Upon graduation and prior to joining U.S. HELM, David worked for an analytical laboratory as well as a Government Contractor who specialized in health and safety services. His roles involved performing sample analysis and evaluation, developing scientific reports, and conducting research; all of which are still essential functions of his job today. From each of these past experiences, David feels that his biggest takeaway has been the importance of details and how the little things are what makes the difference.
David is distinguished for his expertise in emergency spill response, safety audits, safety oversight, industrial hygiene evaluations including air monitoring, chemical testing, fungal and bacterial surface sampling, noise monitoring, and natural disaster emergency response and remediation. He has consulted on many of the largest environmental disasters nationwide, such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill of 2010.
David enjoys the unique challenges and opportunities presented to him as an environmental, health, and safety consultant. He is a process-driven, goal-oriented individual who finds satisfaction in identifying the issue at hand and being part of an efficient and timely solution to the matter.
When not playing in things that smell or glow, David can be found hosting a tailgate with close friends at an LSU football game or spending time with his wife, Shannon, and 15-month old daughter, Stella.
David also enjoys helping Shannon, an elementary school teacher, with fundraisers and activities associated with their community.
