Property Loss Quantification Analysis for Shipbuilder’s $500 Million Facilities Damaged in Hurricane Katrina

J.S. Held provided on-site inspection of properties to assess the damage and physical property loss estimates on three buildings:

  • East Bank Machine Shop $3.9 million/54,000 square feet
  • East Bank Valve Shop $1.7 million/15,000 square feet
  • West Bank Steel Fabrication Shop $5.5 million/273,000 square feet

Analysis determined that adjuster’s loss estimates undervalued the cost of repairs and replacement. Values were consistent NGSS construction manager’s estimates. The loss estimates were used in mediation and ongoing adjustment negotiation.
