The Situation

A significant fire occurred at a DDC encompassing approximately 1,200,000 square feet, including multiple internal buildings and office spaces. The fire resulted in extensive smoke migration throughout the entire facility and caused a partial roof collapse. Multiple contractors were engaged to assist with restoration, cleaning, and rebuilding efforts, in collaboration with environmental consultants, structural engineers, and building consultants.

How We Advised

The J.S. Held Building Consulting team was engaged to collaborate with environmental consultants and emergency vendors to complete the necessary cleaning throughout the entire facility. J.S. Held worked closely with contractors to negotiate a competitive rate schedule and organize work activities on a 24-hour basis. The Building Consulting team assisted in determining the scope of repairs for all impacted building components. Daily monitoring was conducted to ensure accuracy and efficiency on-site. Extensive assessments were performed on 66 invoice packages submitted by various contractors.

J.S. Held’s Forensic Architecture & Engineering team was engaged to assist in making the building safe and identifying structural repair needs within the building. All impacted MEP systems throughout the facility were documented and quantified to capture the pre-loss condition necessary for reinstatement.

J.S. Held’s Equipment team was engaged to quantify the impacted conveyance systems throughout the facility, determine methods of restoration, and prepare an ACV report for non-salvageable components.

Additionally, J.S. Held’s Roofing team was engaged to assist with the roofing repair scope and requirements.
