Summary of Experience:
Gregory Lewis has extensive experience in the structural engineering field. His career has involved the performance and oversight of the design and inspection of commercial and residential buildings in various stages of construction. This includes the design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, and timber structures, shop drawing review, liaising with other design professionals and clients and concrete restoration and renovation of existing buildings. He has served as project manager on several large projects throughout Florida including single and multi-story hotels, casinos, hospitals, and office buildings.
Gregory has extensive experience in the restoration of concrete structures in response to degradation from exposure to the harsh coastal environments in Florida. His concrete restoration experience involves determination of the extent of required remediation, quantification of concrete removal and replacement, structural analysis of the affected portions of existing structures, development of solutions to address structural stability issues arising from removal of portions of the structural frame, and providing reports of in-progress repair efforts to owners and their representatives. His renovation experience involves performing analysis of existing structures, designing retrofits to upgrade the load carrying capacity of structures, and the design of additions to existing buildings. During these renovation efforts considerations were required for construction efforts to be completed within the access and spatial constraints defined by the existing structures. His work on existing buildings required accessing remote areas of buildings already in service and necessitated rapid decisions while limiting impacts on building occupants.
Gregory has structural engineering design experience involving the analysis and design of structures to resist wind and gravity forces. He has performed building movement analyses involving wind tunnel studies and building code prescribed load patterns to determine the most efficient structural systems to resist the wind loads unique to the Florida and the Caribbean while making special considerations to enhance the functionality of the buildings. These efforts involve rigorous coordination with other design professionals and require constant communication to ensure that projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Gregory has performed numerous damage assessment investigations in the South Florida region. These investigations involved gathering and reviewing evidence on water exposure and storm related damage claims to develop and support opinions regarding the Cause-and-Origin of damage. His work on these assessments included research, meeting with the insured parties and their representatives, documentation of the field conditions, and issuing reports based on his conclusions.
