Thomas Mitchell has nearly 40 years of experience in the field of fire investigation, with 30 years of law enforcement experience including fire, explosion, and fraud investigations, as a Criminal Investigator and Lieutenant in-Charge of the Criminal Investigations Unit. In addition to his law enforcement background, he was a 30-year member of his local volunteer fire department, serving as Firefighter-Investigator, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief, and Fire Commissioner.
Since retiring from law enforcement, Tom continues to investigate fire losses, employed first, by a national fire investigation firm, followed by a regional forensic engineering company. Tom served the northern New York State as Senior Fire Investigator, consistently conducting in excess of 100 fire investigations annually.
When he joined Morrison Engineering in 2006, Tom continued to serve the insurance industry throughout upstate New York, western New England, and the state of Vermont. During this time, he conducted investigations into the origin and cause of fires that number, in total, more than 2,500 incidents. Those losses include but are not limited to, single family residential properties, commercial buildings of various sizes, automobiles, commercial vehicles, aircraft, water vessels, trains, and specialized equipment.
