Get to know Kenny Young, Senior Consultant.
Kenny Young has been in the surety consulting industry for nearly five years. He joined J.S. Held in 2016 as a part of the Lovett Silverman acquisition and is based out of our Arlington, Virginia office. Kenny is an instrumental part of our Surety Practice Group known for his grit, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to see assignments through to completion.
“Kenny has done an outstanding job of transitioning from the world of the contractor to that of a surety consultant,” said John Lovett, National Director of Surety Services. “His effort, approach, and understanding of all facets of the job have gained him the respect and appreciation of both his co-workers and his clients. Kenny is an asset to not only our group but the entire J.S. Held organization.”
Kenny’s primary responsibilities with J.S. Held include supporting clients in the investigation and management of surety claims, ranging from performance bond claim analysis to assisting with the completion of commercial construction projects.
Kenny is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences. Upon graduation and prior to joining Lovett Silverman, Kenny worked for a large, specialized electrical contractor as a project manager.
In this capacity, Kenny helped facilitate the planning and execution of electrical construction on large commercial projects. As a result of this experience, Kenny strengthened his leadership and management abilities while developing subject-matter expertise in electrical systems and the nuances of commercial construction contracts. The next stop along his path was at Lovett Silverman where he learned the ropes of the surety consulting industry. It was in the summer of 2016 that Kenny joined J.S. Held through the Lovett Silverman acquisition, a transition he describes as “a chance to continue to do the work he loves on a global scale.”
As a kid, Kenny enjoyed assembling puzzles. In his current role he applies that same passion to the surety projects he is involved with, except instead of puzzle pieces he is handling volumes of construction and legal documents. Due to the complex nature of these assignments, Kenny’s engagement on any one particular matter may be required for several years. The opportunity to exercise his patience, apply his attention to detail, and challenge himself in crafting the big picture from the sum of many parts are aspects of the role Kenny enjoys most.
Over the course of his career, Kenny has worked on the WMATA Orange-Blue Line Rehabilitation (Maryland/Virginia/Washington, D.C. Metro), The Grove at Grand Bay Condominium (Miami, FL), Baltimore City Community College (Baltimore, MD), Brickell City Centre (Miami, FL), INOVA Women's Hospital and INOVA Children's Hospital (Fairfax, VA), and the San Diego Light Rail (San Diego, CA).
At the end of the day, Kenny finds fulfillment and inspiration in the vast variety of projects he provides assistance on and the relationships he has formed with his clients and colleagues.
Away from work, Kenny enjoys running, hiking, golfing, and spending time with friends and family. He also relishes in his most recent hobby of spending quality time with his newborn baby, Kenton, during all hours of the night.
Kenny is also involved in his community, where he and his wife volunteer with a local animal shelter, often fostering special-needs dogs and helping them find their forever homes.
