The Housing Authority of New Orleans currently manages public housing in New Orleans, and began with the Magnolia projects developed in 1941, and later renamed C.J. Peete. Following damages sustained from Hurricane Katrina, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorized funding in 2007 for the demolition and redevelopment of the “Big Four” sites, including B.W. Cooper, C.J. Peete, Lafitte and St. Bernard.
J.S. Held has been involved with various environmental, health and safety services from initial inspection through redevelopment of the “Big Four.” J.S. Held completed Phase I ESAs; performed initial site assessments for asbestos, lead and additional environmental hazards; developed asbestos, lead, additional environmental hazards and soil remediation protocols for several HANO properties, and played a significant role in the federal litigation against HANO for these projects.
